The new machines are now capable of analyzing all the data on the web – links, text, images, graphics, people and other computers. The idea of ‘Semantic Web’ is in its birth stage, where the day-to-day mechanisms of daily lives, trade and other tasks pertaining to businesses are handled by machines with humans providing only the intuition part of the conversation. Once this stage develops further, internet will become a place where the reasoning of the machine and the instruction from the humans will coexist in a powerful and ideal environment.
In fact, the shift from old web technology to the new technology is subtle and perceived as the ultimate one. This new web technology is envisioned as offering an experience that is quantum leaps ahead of what was seen in the last couple of years. Some of the technologies involve wearable devices that provide constant internet connection through eye-activated menus, similar to today’s virtual video games, where users can interact with other visitors, just like in person. Such new ideas are making the technology observers wonder where the web will end up eventually. Some believe that the new web technology is expected to grow in the same direction and in the same way – without any particular government or one company controlling it. Others find it hard to believe.
The model of web, until now, has been the product of everyone using bits and pieces from everywhere so that anyone has access to it. Unfortunately, the observers of the new web technology are expressing a concern over a troubling trend. Some of them have pointed out that companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft are making certain applications exclusively available to their product users, which is contrary to the open nature of the internet. For example, Apple makes decision about who creates the application for their Apple products, what the application does and how it should work, which isn’t the way a free web should work. Similarly, Google’s innovative direction feature is exclusively available to Android users and no one else.
